Kimia, SareanaSareana Kimia is a homeschooled high school junior student from Bethesda, Maryland, and is dual enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park. She serves as Student Member on Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee; member of the Maryland Youth Advisory Council; Founder & President/CEO of Youth for National Change; Director of Congressional Outreach for the Campaign for a Presidential Youth Council; an Advisory Board Member of both, EntrepreneuHer & MissHeard Magazine; and the HeForShe Advocate for UN Women. Sareana also writes articles for both, Her Culture and Girls Leadership Institute. She co-founded Maryland Association of National Honor Societies as well. Sareana helps and serves others through cooking meals for the hungry; tutoring ESOL students; fostering an encouraging environment for girls; volunteering at senior citizen homes; advocating for better youth health; participating in environmental clean-ups; or whatever else she can do in the community. Sareana has participated in City Year DC, an AmeriCorps program, too. She has received several scholarships and awards, including Maryland State Governor’s Citation in 2014, an Official Citation from the Maryland General Assembly in 2014, the Prudential Spirit of Community State Award in 2010, and the President’s Volunteer Service Awards in both 2011 & 2010 among others. Sareana was also presented the 2014 Young Heroes Award through the National Liberty Museum for her civic engagement & public service, and her work is on display at the museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She embodies the democratic principles of social engagement, and believes in the words of Nelson Mandela, “A fundamental concern for others in our individual and community lives would go a long way in making the world the better place we so passionately dreamt of.”
